Do You Need a Rigger and Signal Person On Every Install?


While there likely are scenarios in which qualified signal persons and riggers are not required, it is likely inadvisable to place a lift director or other scheduling supervisor in the position to determine whether or not this lift requires a qualified crew. Better to have the qualification in a situation that might not require the credential than to find yourself performing a lift without the required personnel.

A signal person is required when there is an obstruction that prevents the operator having a full view of the load travel or load placement. As to the rigger requirement, because your employees are likely to be placed within the fall zone of the load, the qualified rigger requirement will apply
